Science and Social Studies

Much of what we learn about Science and Social Studies this year will be done during our Literacy Block. Our Science curriculum focuses on the very smallest form of life, cells, to the largest most amazing scientific discoveries in space. Students will have tests at the end of each chapter and they will receive a study guide at least 2 days in advance in order to give them adequate time to study. Studying needs to become the responsibility of the student at this grade level we are working on transferring this responsibility completely to them as they prepare for middle school.

Social Studies is FUN in fifth grade. We begin learning about our state and then moving into U.S. History from the Antebellum Period until present time and Tennessee's role within. Like Science, students will also have tests following each unit of study and will also receive study guides at least two nights in advance to help them prepare.

At home projects are assigned at the rate of about one per month these two content areas. Often you will find slideshows and movies of our in class projects on this site. Check back often for updates.
